Willah Mae Billie Westall of Ruidoso passed from this life to be with her father in heaven on June 29, 2010. Billie was born on January 27, 1917 in the family ranch house about 5 miles east of Mayhill on the Agua Chiquita.
Her family moved to a ranch adjacent to the Flying H on the Feliz River in 1927. At a young age Billie was badly hurt after falling from a windmill. Billie often spoke fondly of her mother Maggie Delene and father William Richard Shorty Joy. Billie would recite with happiness stories of her fathers prowess with horses and her moms popular cooking. Billie went to school through sixth grade near the ranch. She then stayed with friends and relatives in Hope, Lovington, and Cloudcroft, NM achieving a high school diploma in 1936. While attending high school, Billie met a handsome young attendant at the gas station named George.
On July 10, 1936 Billie and George Westall married, in Carlsbad, NM. The couple moved to Ruidoso in 1947. They were members of the First Baptist Church from 1947 to present all the members of the First Baptist Church were family to Bille. Billie and George owned several businesses in Ruidoso, and Billie never hesitated to tell others of her love for the town.
Billie was preceded in death by her daughterinlaw Shirley Westall. She is survived by her husband of 74 years George Westall her son Glen Richard Westall of Midland, TX, her daughter Georgiana and husband Charles Perry of Artesia, NM grandchildren, Glen RickWestall Jr. of Midland, Kyle Westall and wife Molly of Farmington, NM, Natalia Campanella and husband Tony of Tinnie, NM, Roxana Newton and husband Kevin of Artesia, and Nathan Perry and wife Traci of San Antonio TX great grandchildren Brandon and Vanessa Campanella, Kaleb and Erica Newton, Bradley and Jordyn Perry, and Dylan Westall. Billie is also survived by her great great grandchild Jaidaa Estrada.
The family would like to thank the many caregivers who assisted Billie over the past months, especially Traci Williams, Maria Young, and Judy Ulate. The family would like to request that memorials be made to the First Baptist Church, or to a church or charity of your choice. Services for Mrs. Westall will be held on Saturday, July 3 at 10:30 A.M. at the First Baptist Church, 270 Country Club Drive, Ruidoso with burial at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be at Friday, July 2, from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM at LaGrone Funeral Chapel.
