Welton Allen

March 6, 1928 — June 9, 2023

Welton Marion “Tex” Allen, age 95, of Alto, New Mexico, passed from this life on June 9, 2023, in El Paso, Texas. Welton was born on March 6, 1928, in Vernon, Texas, to the late Walter Marion Allen and Elsie (Zajicek) Allen.

Welton grew up in the Great Depression.  At age 14 he worked baling hay at the Wagner Ranch near Vernon.  He also picked cotton with his family in Arizona during WWII.   This made him a tough worker at a young age.  When he was 15, his family moved to California.  His adult life brought him much success.    His first job was unloading box cars at Sandberg Furniture in Vernon, California and worked his way up to become Vice President of Production. Welton was a sharp businessman and a tough boss, but always had a great relationship with the employees of the company.  He traveled the world seeking out new production technology to better the company. After his retirement in 1991, he moved to Ruidoso Downs and raised Long Horn Cattle on his property.  After the death of his wife, he sold his ranch and moved to Alto. Welton was an avid deer and elk hunter. He loved Ruidoso, supporting multiple organizations, and was a member of the Lincoln County Sheriff's Posse.

Welton is preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 63 years, Jeanne (Lowe) Allen, married on December 26, 1946, daughter Sharon Allen; and two infant brothers, Walter, and Wilbur.

He is survived by his son, Jerry Allen, and wife Sharon; grandchildren, Lisa Allen, Jennifer and husband Scott Treadway, Heidi Doe and husband Michael, and Timothy Allen and wife Rebecca; great grandchildren, Kyle Doe and wife Emily, Thomas Doe, April Barham and husband Jake, Carter Treadway, Tyler Treadway, Aubrey Treadway, Luke Allen, and Joshua Allen; and one brother, James W. Allen as well as several nieces and nephews.
