Walter Nowak

Walter Carl Nowak, (Walt), passed away, peacefully, in his home, on Thursday, 29 December, 2016, surrounded by family and friends. He was born the youngest of three sons, on 27 July, 1940, to Polish immigrants, Andrew and Katarzyna Nowak, in Cudahay, Wisconsin. He would later move to California, where he graduated from USC, with a master's degree in Electrical Engineering. Walt retired from Hughes Aerospace in 1997, where he worked on highly classified satellite and missile guidance projects. He also spoke fluent Polish.
Walt was a brilliant, fun, loving, charming and witty man who lived life to the fullest, and was always a pleasure with which to converse. He could speak on any topic, and light up a room with his self-deprecating brand of humour. He had many hobbies, including being a highly accomplished painter, along with the ability to forge striking stained glass compellations, as well as an avid golfer, except, according to him, the 17th hole. Walt's talents were multifaceted. He also enjoyed yard work, camping and many other outdoor activities, as well as being a dedicated animal lover. He couldn't turn away a stray.

He was a cherished husband, father, grandfather and uncle. He is survived by his lovely wife, Karin Nowak, of Ruidoso, his beautiful daughter, Erin Nowak Gordon, her husband Leo, and their children, Ben and Sophie, of Asheville, North Carolina, as well as many nephews and nieces, and their children, all residing in Wisconsin.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to either the American Cancer Association, or the local Hospice organization.

Walt was truly treasured, and will be missed immensely by many.

A memorial service will be held at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Mount on Saturday, 07 January, 2017 at 11:00 a.m., at 121 Mescalero Trail, Ruidoso, New Mexico 88355.

Service
