Virginia Mehaffie

Virginia Elizabeth Barton Mehaffie entered this world on June 10, 1938 and departed on November 25, 2017 at age 79.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 49 years, Shamus Mehaffie on May 31, 2016. She valiantly went on without him but we all knew how hard it was for her. Now they are joyfully reunited. We miss them both.
She was also preceded in death by her toddler son, Eric Barton Pierce who died May 1964, her parents, Samuel Guy and Nora Barton, and her dear sister Peggy Mullinix of Jacksonville, Texas.

Shamus and Virginia met teaching English at Kimball High in Dallas. They married February 24, 1967 then lived in Dallas and Austin before making their home in Lubbock, Texas and finally in Ruidoso, New Mexico.

She is survived by her only daughter Megan Comiskey, Megan's husband George and their three children, and a host of loving relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be mailed to the Virginia Mehaffie Memorial Fund at First Bank and Trust, 7806 Indiana Avenue, Lubbock, TX 79423.

In her Bible was found the following labeled "For my Obituary"-

"She was not a woman of great talents, but she was an excellent listener, a faithful friend, and she always appreciated the use of good grammar and a well- placed apostrophe or semi-colon. She loved to read extensively and often wished she could be a writer."

Memorial services will be held on December 29, 2017 at 2pm at LaGrone Funeral Chapel in Ruidoso, NM and January 6, 2018 at 2 pm St. John's UMC Lubbock, Texas.
