Vernon Simmons

Vernon Chungo D. Simmons, 72, of Mescalero was born April 12, 1941 and went to be with his savior on October 13, 2013.

Chungo married Della Botella and was married 48 years. He is survived by his wife, Della son, Cyrus daughter and soninlaw, Louwanna Tommy Sanchez granddaughters, Dezarae, Angela and Alexis 1 great granddaughter, Isabella. Six sisters, Judy Lester, Colleen Hubbard, Rebecca Shosh, Karen Yuzos, Helen Yuzos and Lorena Lester two brothers, Melvin Yuzos Sr. and Melford Boy Yuzos. He has many relatives and friends in New Mexico and Oklahoma.

He was preceded in death by his father, Edmond Simmons and mother, Kathleen Hosetosavit Yuzos sister, Sharon Yuzos. He was an avid sports fan and supported everyone who played whether family, friends, or strangers. He played football, basketball and baseball. He talked to everyone he met or walked up to with a comment or a joke. He lived and worked in Mescalero all of his life.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Prayer service will be Wednesday, October 16, a 6:00 PM at the Mescalero Reformed Church where the funeral will be on Thursday, October 17, at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at the Yuzos Family Cemetery in Carrizo.
