Terry F Strickland, 75, of Capitan passed away September 29, 2019 in Roswell, NM.
He was born October 11, 1943 in Hobbs, NM to Bill and Jean Strickland. He graduated from Hobbs High and joined the Army to serve in the Vietnam War. He was a decorated Green Beret, Paratrooper, expert rifleman and gunner. After his honorable discharge, he moved to Capitan to work for the US Forest Service and met the love of his life, Kay Wright. They were married January 19, 1968 in Capitan.
Terry was a hard working and talented man. He owned and operated his own welding business in Capitan for many years and was a freight hauler for a time. He also worked as a seasonal Fire Management Officer for the US Forest Service in the Guadalupe Ranger District, a job which he enjoyed and was proud of.
When he wasn’t home spending time with his beloved wife, two daughters, and family, you could find him with friends at the local coffee shop, in his shop working on his latest hobby, or watching football.
Terry is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Linda, and brothers David and Joe.
He is survived by his wife, Kay, two daughters, Rhonda Cox and husband Tommy of Amarillo, TX, Melinda Wilson and husband Shawn of Capitan; five grandkids, Veronica Reeves-Lopez and husband Joseph, Stephanie Avent and husband Tyler, Kirsten Wilson, Taylor Miller and husband Tryston, and Blade Wilson; three great-grandkids, Reeves, Evelyn, and Teal; two sisters, Sue Tramell and Judy Faye Rusk; and many loved nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held Friday, October 4th at the Capitan Cemetery at 10:00 a.m.
