Teddy Andrew Fisher

October 18, 1945 — September 2, 2024

Alto

Teddy Andrew Fisher, known to friends and family as Ted, passed peacefully on September 2, 2024, in Ruidoso, New Mexico at the age of 78, due to complications from a fall during the recent fire evacuation. Ted was born on October 18, 1945, in Lawton, Oklahoma to the late Russell John Fisher and Angelia Emma Maltese Fisher. Ted lived a full life surrounded by family and friends.

Ted is survived by his beloved wife, Janice Louise Fisher; daughters, Lori Katherine Fisher and Jaclyn Fisher Symank Mahlmann (Michael King Mahlmann); stepson, James Brandon Cantu (Amanda Owens); grandchildren, Spencer Payton Mahlmann, and Asher Everett Owens; sister, Barbara Valdez (Bernard Valdez); and nephew, Brian Valdez. Ted also enjoyed the privilege of spending time with multiple nieces and nephews through marriage throughout the years. He is preceded in death by his parents, and beloved Old English Mastiff, Hannibal.

Ted dedicated over 25 years of his career in retail to managing Dillard’s Department Stores, leading branches in McAllen, Tx; New Orleans, LA; San Antonio, Tx; and El Paso, TX. His commitment and leadership earned him multiple awards, including Manger of the Year awards at different locations. He was also an active member of the McAllen Chamber of Commerce and Rotary Club. After retiring from retail, Ted worked a short period of time as a real estate agent with Century 21 in Alto, NM. He continued to serve his community by sitting on the Board of Directors of Alto Lakes Golf and Country Club.

In his leisure, Ted enjoyed sailing in South Texas as a proud member of the AFM Crew and he sailed Lake Pontchartrain as a crewman onboard the Cafe Du Monde vessel. Ted found additional ways to mix community service with his interests by joining the Louisiana Auxiliary Coast Guard. In addition to boating, playing tennis, and golf, Ted cheered for (or more often spent time being disappointed by) the Dallas Cowboys. Socially, Ted enjoyed dining with friends and family at the Alto Lakes Country Club. He especially looked forward to reuniting with his friends and neighbors on Thursday nights. When alone, he found great joy sitting on his back porch watching “fire in the sky”. When the beautiful New Mexico sun would light the sky in orange and red before sinking behind the Sierra Blanca Mountains crowning their dark silhouettes with a soft blue-silver light, a nightly event which brought him immense comfort and peace.

Ted’s kind and steady presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His family finds comfort in the many memories shared with him and the peaceful moments he cherished in his life.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Eleanor Catholic Church in Ruidoso, New Mexico. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the local fire and flooding victims through Community Foundation of Lincoln, County or Through the “City Bank” Employee Assistance Fund by calling 575-257-2265 account number 27092135 (all proceeds will aid Club employees affected by the fire) in Ted’s honor.
