Susan Jean Spence died peacefully in her home on June 17, 2023, in Alto, New Mexico at the age of 83.
Susan is survived by her husband George Bernarr Spence; her sons and daughters-in-law, John Spence, Chris Spence (Maggie), Greg Spence (Bertha); grandchildren Jacque Franco (Alfredo), Ashley Briones (Johnny), Andy Spence (Kayla), James Spence, Lindsay Cloud (Derek), Janika Spence, Bobbi Ramirez (Nick), Krys Spence, Jennifer Spence (Danny), Chelcie Spence (Antonio), Jeffrey Spence (Kendra); great-grandchildren, Adalynn Franco, Christopher Briones, Tripp Briones, Layken Spence, Paetyn Franco, Ryder Ramirez, Scarlette Briones, Charlotte Briones, Carson Franco, Aria Ramirez, Avery Spence, Austin Bello, and Scottlyn Spence.
Susan was born on July 11, 1939, in El Paso, TX to Edward Harris Thompson and James Ophelia Thompson. She had one sibling, an older brother Clinton Thompson. She graduated from Ysleta High School in 1957 and graduated from New Mexico State University in 1960 with a degree in Business. She married George Bernarr Spence, her high school sweetheart in 1960. After graduation, Susan worked by keeping the books for the family farming operation. Along with working side by side with her husband Bernarr, she raised her three boys.
Her children remember her as a loving, giving, and supportive mother in all aspects.
Susan was passionate about cross stitching, cooking and often indulged in golf. But above all she was passionate about her family and friends. She was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church. A dedicated member of the community, Susan often took part with the Woman's Club and was very generous in many charities.
The Funeral is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. on June 28, 2023, at Evergreen Cemetery East located at 12400 East Montana El Paso, TX. Sherry Hoffer and Joey Onick will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Susan's life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Ronald McDonald House or any charity of your choosing in the name of Susan Spence. The family would like to thank all for your condolences and prayers.
