Our dear Heavenly Father took our beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, brotherinlaw, and friend home to be with Him on Sunday, June 9, 2013. Sidney was born on May 3, 1947 in Mescalero to James Baca and Karis Naiche Botelladeceased. He lived in Mescalero during his lifetime, where he enjoyed horseback riding, hunting and camping, and later in life with the acquired knowledge of our traditional culture he participated in many cultural events with special attention to the Coming of Age Ceremonial for young maidens.
Sidney was blessed to serve as an honor guard for the Pope in Phoenix, AZ. He exchanged blessings with the Pope during his visit.
He also traveled to many areas of our country with his wife Bessie, to include Amsterdam Holland Santa Cruz, California Nantuckett tribe of Connecticut and participated in the Apache United Run to Oklahoma, to San Carlos, AZ and to Dulce, NM. He had a outstanding contribution to his fellow Native American people of Mescalero.
Survivors include his wife, Bessie Morgan Baca children, Nyles Joseph and his wife Mavis and children, Wynette and family, Geraldine Jackie and family, Sydney K. and family, YuminSonny and family, and three sisters, Sharon Taazah, Hazel Spottedbird and Erdine Botellaand their families.
He is preceded in death by one brother, Yumin Baca grandparents, Christian Jr.and Alta Treas Naiche, and aunts and uncles.
Evening service will be on Thursday, June 13, at 6:00 PM with the funeral services on Friday, June 14, at 9:00 AM at the family residence, 267 San Juan Drive in Mud Canyon in Mescalero. Burial will follow at the Mescalero Cemetery.
