On November 19, 2012 Heaven gained an Angel, when Rosa R. Chavez of Carrizozo, NM passed away at 101 years of age. Rosa was born on February 25, 1911 at White Oaks, NM to Cassandro Ramirez and Delfina Medina. Rosa led an amazing life here in New Mexico. She worked for Governor William McDonald, the first governor of the State of New Mexico. She later acquired a nursing degree and worked as a nurse at the Lincoln County Medical Center which, at the time, was located in Carrizozo. However, Rosas greatest accomplishment is being a loving mother to her six children, Felipa, Joe, Cecilia, Gene who all precede her in death and Edward and Lorena who survive her.
Rosas memory is survived by her son, Edward Chavez of Austin, TX and her daughter, Lorena LaMay of Capitan, NM as well as many other family members, friends, and loved ones.
A rosary and vigil will be held in Rosas honor on December 21, 2012 at 7:00 PM at Santa Ritas Catholic Church in Carrizozo where the funeral service will be on Saturday, December 22 at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery in Carrizozo.
