Richard "Dick" Cull, born on June 5, 1942, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2024. He was a man whose life was defined by his deep love for his family and his unwavering commitment to serving his country.
Dick served honorably in the United States Army Airborne as a Green Beret Special Forces, a testament to his bravery and dedication. His military service was just one facet of a multifaceted life that was marked by love, adventure, and a passion for learning. He was a proud husband for 58 years and took great pride in being the father to his four beloved daughters, who he affectionately referred to as his "princesses." If you knew the Cull girls, you knew their Dad. His role as a grandfather and great grandfather brought him immense joy as well, with three granddaughters and two great grandsons who looked up to him, considering him 'the man, the myth, the legend.'
Beyond his familial bonds, Dick had a zest for life that was reflected in his numerous hobbies and interests. He had a passion for collecting various items, and among his most cherished pastimes was his love for electric trains. He delighted in this hobby, finding joy in the intricate details and mechanics involved. Additionally, Dick loved animals and had a profound appreciation for the wildlife that the beautiful surroundings of Ruidoso provided, often spending time outdoors and exploring all that nature had to offer.
Before his retirement, he worked with his wife at her Montessori school where he was best and fondly known as "Mr. Dick".
A passion for aviation fueled his lifelong dream of earning a private pilot's license, an accomplishment that symbolized his adventurous spirit and desire to experience the world from new heights. One of Dick's proudest accomplishments was serving over 50 years as a 32nd Degree Master Mason and being a member of the Washington Lodge #21 in New York City, New York.
Richard "Dick" Cull leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and inspiration that will forever resonate with those he touched during his remarkable life. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Dick is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Shaula Cull; daughters, Ginny, Anne, Betsy, and Cathy; grandchildren, Savannah, Terek, Sydney, and Staci; great grandchildren, Jaxsen, and Dallas. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and Thomas Cull.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
