Raymond Lahey

September 17, 1953 — April 7, 2013

Dr. Raymond David Lahey, know as Ray, passed away Sunday morning, April 7, 2013 at the age of 59 years old at his home in Eagle Creek Canyon after a long struggle with a disability and severe chronic back pain. He was born September 17, 1953 in Burlington, CO to Duane and Barbara Lahey. At the age of five he moved to Cherry Creek in Denver, CO with his four siblings, William, Michael, Douglas and Patricia. He was an honor athlete in high school and played football and wrestled.

He attended undergraduate school at Dartmouth College and obtained a Masters in Anatomy and a Doctorate of Medicine from Nebraska University. He did a five year residency in Orthopedic Surgery at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, KS. He met his wife, Margaret McDonald, there and they were married in 1983 in McAllen, TX

They moved to Ruidoso, NM in 1986 where Ray set up an orthopedic surgery practice. They had two children, Lauren and Sean, who grew up in Ruidoso. Ray loved the outdoors, hiking and gardening.

He was loved by his patients and had the reputation of being a bit of a perfectionist, just what you would want in an orthopedic surgeon. He closed his practice after fifteen years due to a disability that prevented from continuing to practice medicine.

There will be a gathering to remember Ray and give friends a change to share stories and celebrate his life at his home at 221 Eagle Creek Canyon from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM Wednesday, April 10, 2013.
