Ramona Sanchez

Her Otero genealogical line has been traced back to early 1700's when they lived in the Belen-Tome area of New Mexico, then a part of New Spain. She was born on February 14, 1912 in Patos, Lincoln County, New Mexico to parents Antonio Otero and Emiliana Zamora Otero. Ramona Otero married Salomon Sanchez in 1933 in Carrizozo, NM. Ramona and Salomon moved their family to Carrizozo in 1942 from the W R Lovelace Ranch near Corona. After the war, they owned a nine-section goat ranch in the Malpais near Carrizozo. At the same time they owned the Depot Cafe next to the Railroad Station and the Burton Fuel Yard business in Carrizozo. Survivors include only her younger sister, Sally Otero Garcia and husband Ray of Albuquerque from a family of seven. Ramona has one step-daughter, Faviola Dalton and husband Ben of Capitan, NM; two daughters, Mary Olida Vullo and husband Ralph of Tularosa, NM, and Lorena Baroz and husband Ralph of Carrizozo, NM; one step-son, Orlando Sanchez of Tucson, AZ and two sons, Elmon Sanchez and wife Viola of Bosque, NM, and Ernest J. Sanchez and wife Bernadette of Las Cruces. There are 12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Her husband Salomon G. Sanchez, her brothers, Pablo Otero, Federico Otero, and Ernesto Otero and her sisters, Anita Carabajal and Nellie Rael precede her in death.
