It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Prospero Felix Gonzales, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who departed this earthly life on March 5, 2025, in his lifelong home of Glencoe, New Mexico. He was 90 years old, leaving behind a legacy rich with love, hard work, and an unwavering spirit.
Born on February 18, 1935, in Glencoe, NM, to a family that valued community and hard work, Prospero embodied these traits his entire life. He served honorably in the United States Navy from December 7, 1955, to November 5, 1959, working as a mechanic. After his service, he returned to New Mexico, where he met the love of his life, Inez Rue. They married on April 25, 1959, and together, they built a life full of joy and adventure.
Prospero was a master concrete man known for his expertise in building bridges and roads across many states. His craft not only shaped the landscape but also showcased his commitment to hard work. He raised many of his nephews and nieces, instilling in them the values of love, hard work, and perseverance.
An eclectic collector of treasures, including vintage cars, Prospero cherished his 1934 Ford and found immense joy in attending car shows. He loved to entertain, often inviting friends and family to enjoy “mantanzas” and celebrating life through music and dance, particularly with his cherished accordion.
Prospero is preceded in death by his parents Prospero and Ambrosia Gonzales; brother Floyde Gonzales; sisters Lila Madena and Dorothy Gonzales; and grandson Matthew Gonzales.
Prospero is survived by his devoted spouse, Inez Gonzales; his son, Valarde (Angel) Gonzales; his daughter, Cricket Gonzales; his grandchildren, Valarde (Megan), Savannah (Cody), Gabriel (Naomi), Nicholas, Sarah (Leroy) ; his great-grandchildren, Addie, Braxtin, Brantley, Emberlee, Junnie, Blu, Elijah, Carmen; sisters-in-law Nana (Danny), Dorothy (J.T.), Bonnie (Renee); brother-in-law Gary (Pat) and many nieces and nephews.. He touched the lives of many and is deeply missed by all who knew him.
A Mass of Christian Burial in celebration of Prospero’s life will be held at St. Eleanor's Catholic Church on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at 1:00 PM, preceded by a Rosary at 12:30 PM.
In this time of sorrow, we celebrate a life fully lived, filled with love, laughter, and memories that will forever be cherished. Prospero Felix Gonzales will remain in our hearts as a symbol of strength, creativity, and dedication to family and community.
