Norma Roberts

Norma Virginia Roberts, 78, of Ruidoso went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on October 30, 2012 after a valiant battle with multiple sclerosis. She was born to Frederick and Athalie Patch in Worchester, Massachusetts on August 17, 1934.

Norma graduated from the Worcester High School of Commerce in 1953. She graduated from Hahnemann Hospital School of Nursing, Worcester, in 1955 as a Registered Nurse. In 1956 she graduated from St. Vincents Hospital School of Nurse Anesthesia, Worcester, and was certified as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists.

Normas professional career spanned thirtyfive years and included: Supervisor of Nursing Anesthesia at Fairfax General Hospital, Alexandria, Virginia and Department supervisor of Nurse Anesthesia at Cowlitz General Hospital, Longview, Washington. Norma was an active member of the Washington State Association of Nurse Anesthetists and served as Vice President as well as President of that organization she also was an active member of Western States Association of Nurse Anesthetists and the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists.

As a young girl Norma was a member of the Children of the American Revolution and as an adult she joined the Daughters of the American Revolution. Norma was genuinely proud of her heritage and delighted in talking about her ancestry.

On January 24, 1976, Norma married Marvin B. Roberts in El Paso, Texas where they made their home for several years until Marvins retirement and then they moved to their home in Ruidoso where this year they celebrated their thirtysixth wedding anniversary.

Norma was preceded in death by her father, mother, stepmother Beulah Patch and stepsister, Glenna Boudreau. She is survived by her husband, Marvin sisters, Shirley Ferris of Kennebunk, Maine, Ruth Wirth of Quincy, Massachusetts, James Patch and his wife Shirley of Holden, Massachusetts and several nieces and nephews.

Norma was a charming, compassionate lady with an untiring spirit, a joie de vivre, and a resolute, abiding faith in her Christianity she will be sorely missed by family and friends.

A memorial will be Saturday, November 17, at 2:00 PM in the First Presbyterian Church of Ruidoso.

The family has requested memorials to the Ruidoso Home Health and Hospice Foundation, the Wounded Warrior Project or a charity of your choice.
