Family and friends will gather to celebrate the life of Michael Wayne Rankin, 68 of Ruidoso, NM. Mike Rankin passed away October 14, 2024. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 18, 2024, at Angus Church of the Nazarene, 103 Bonita Park Rd, Angus, NM 88316, with Rev. Jan Sweeney officiating. A private interment will take place at a later time.
Mike was born June 4, 1956 in Plainview, Texas to Wayne and Peggy Rankin. He grew up in Plainview, was an Eagle Scout, and graduated from Plainview High School in 1974. He attended West Texas State University, worked in retail sales in Amarillo, Plainview, and Lubbock, Texas, and continued his work in retail sales in Ruidoso, NM until his retirement. Mike married the love of his life, Sheila Towns on September 6, 1986. They moved to Ruidoso in 1989. As a Scoutmaster, and a member of the Cowboy Action Shooting Society, Mike's love for nature and the outdoors was on full display as he mentored many young people through Scouts, foster parenting, camping, riding horses, hunting, recreational shooting, hiking, fishing, photography, art, and music.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Sheila Rankin, of Nogal, NM; his son Chase Rankin and his wife Shay of Spring Creek, NV; his sons Brandon Rankin, and Christopher Rankin of Nogal, NM; his mother Peggy Rankin of Plainview, TX; his brother Larry Rankin and his wife Lori of Plainview, TX; his mother-in-law, Irene Towns of Tulsa, OK; his sister in law Lesa Hubbard and her husband Jimmy of Tulsa, OK. Other survivors include a granddaughter, Zoe Walls; his nephews Logan Rankin and his wife Amy of Weatherford, TX; Landon Rankin and his wife Brittni of Surprise, AZ; Leighton Rankin and his wife Caitlyn of Plainview, TX; Clayton Hubbard and his wife Lanie of Raleigh, NC; a niece J'Lesa, and her husband Jared Bouzek of Oklahoma City, OK. He is also survived by 6 great-nephews, and 6 great-nieces. He is preceded in death by his father, Wayne Rankin, and his father-in-law, James Towns.
