Mary Wimberly

A Celebration of life will be held Monday, July 14, for Mary Wimberly, 78, of Ruidoso at Cree Meadows Country Club from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM. Mary passed away Monday, July 7, in Albuquerque.

Mary was born on November 19, 1929 in Texico, NM to Arthur and Ada McClendon. Her family moved to Ruidoso in 1946. Mary attended school in Capitan, NM because Ruidoso did not have a high school. She graduated from Capitan High School in 1947. She was the Capitan Rodeo Queen in 1946 at age 17. She married Carl Corky Halladay of Ruidoso in 1950. She was preceded in death by Corky when he was killed in a logging accidentg at the Sawmill in Hollywood, NM in 1957. She worked as a bank teller at Ruidoso State Bank where she met Ed Wimberly. They were Married in November of 1958. together they formed Sierra Blance Sports in the 1960s with ski shops in Colorado and three in Ruidoso, one at Sierra Blanca Ski area and two downtownSierra Blance Ski Ship and Mountain Ski Shop. She also worked at the Village of Ruidoso Water Department for many years.

She is survived by her three sons, Dan Wimberly and his wife, Sally, Steve Halladay, and Mark Wimberly and his wife, Toko; grandchildren, Ashley Halladay and his wife Brooke, Calla Wimberly and Pollyana Wimberly; nieces Linda Mallett, Bonnie Bowden, Barbara McClendon, Cherlene Schick, Jo Lynn Schick and Sara Wimberly; nephews, George McClendon, Michael Schick and James Wimberly.
