Visitation for Martha Ann Colligan Brown, 94, of Alto will be Thursday, Feb. 5, at LaGrone Funeral Chapel in Ruidoso from 10:00 AM until Noon. The funeral mass will be Thursday, Feb. 5, at 2:00 PM in St. Eleanor's Catholic Church in Ruidoso. Graveside services will be Friday, Feb. 6, at 11:00 AM in the Portales Cemetery at Portales, New Mexico. Mrs. Brown passed away Saturday, January 31, 2009 in Mescalero. She was born March 13, 1914 at Portales, New Mexico to Myrtle and Dave Colligan who precede her in death. She graduated as Valedictorian from Portales High School in 1932; she was a member of the Junior Women's Club, a Girl Scout Leader, a bookkeeper for several business in Portales and worked at the movie theatre where she met Charlie Brown and married him in July, 1933 at Farwell, Texas and he preceded her in death in 1997. She spent most of her life in Portales and moved to Ruidoso in 1998 where she had owned a cabin since 1959 with her husband. She attended St. Eleanor's Catholic Church. She is survived by four daughters, Angela Madge Martin and her husband Alan of Conway, South Carolina, Jeanne Sue Weems and her husband Dewey of Greenville, Tennessee, Kathleen Ann Weems and her husband Donnie of Alto, New Mexico, and Rosemary Elizabeth Brown and her husband Robert Furlong of Portales, New Mexico; a son, Terry Dave Brown and his wife Judy of Roswell and a daughter in law, Sheree Brown of Ruidoso; 14 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Charlie Samuel Brown, a grandson, Martin Wayne Conaway and a sister, Sue Booth. The family has requested memorials to the Christian Childrens Home in Portales or the Mescalero Care Center.
