With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Marcia Montoya Friberg, age 75, on March 6, 2025, in El Paso, Texas. Surrounded by her family, she peacefully concluded her courageous battle with cancer.
Marcia was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles Douglas Friberg; her son, Douglas Allen Friberg; her parents, Alfredo and Virginia Montoya; and her grandson, Sean Andrew Friberg.
Marcia, known by many as Marci, was born on August 22, 1949, in Nampa, Idaho. She grew up in El Paso, Texas, and was a proud Bel Air High School alumnus. She married her high school sweetheart, Charlie, on June 15, 1968. Together, they made their family home in Ruidoso, New Mexico. It would be impossible to honor Marci's life without mentioning the extraordinary love story she shared with her husband of 56 years. Their bond was genuinely special--more than five decades of unfaltering devotion, friendship, and commitment. Their deep love and connection stood as a testament to what sharing a life with someone truly means.
Marci’s greatest joy was born from this love—her five children. She poured her heart into every moment of motherhood. Her devotion to her children and later her grandchildren was unwavering, as she supported each of them every day of her life. No matter the circumstance, her love remained steadfast and unconditional, providing comfort and strength in life's highs and lows. Her selflessness knew no bounds; she always put her family's needs above her own.
Beyond her dedication to family, Marci enjoyed a fulfilling 28-year career in retail with Walmart. She excelled within the company, but more importantly, she forged lasting friendships through her genuine kindness and interest in others.
Marci found solace in birdwatching, gardening, reading, and spending time with family—simple pleasures that brought her immense joy.
Her legacy of love, selflessness, resilience, and kindness will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her.
Marci leaves behind a loving family, including her daughter, Jennifer Dawn Willis; sons Michael Charles Friberg (Kayla), Andrew Davis Friberg (Jennifer), and Jonathan David Friberg (Rachel); sisters, Carlita Montoya Costello, Anita Montoya-Hollands, and Louise Montoya Reza (Louie); a brother, Joseph Davis Montoya (Lydia), and her grandchildren, Mia Friberg, Alexandra Willis, Charlesy Pinkham-Largent, Douglas Willis (Madison), Samantha Friberg, Benjamin Willis, Emma Willis, Jennifer Friberg, Noah Torres, Michael Friberg, Ryan Friberg, Zachary Friberg, Ashlynn Friberg, Aaron Friberg, and Gavin Friberg.
A Mass of Christian Burial in celebration of Marcia's life will be held at St. Eleanor Roman Catholic Church (140 Junction Road Ruidoso, NM 88345) on Friday, March 28, 2025, at 11:30 AM, preceded by a Rosary at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetary.
Pallbearers are Humberto Flores, Joseph Montoya, Louie Reza, Michael Friberg, Andrew Friberg, Jonathan Friberg, CJ Costello, David Reza, Douglas Willis and Benjamin Willis.
