M. Gunstream

BR M.D. Gunstream passed away on Thursday, May 1, in Ruidoso, NM. He was born on Jaunary 15, 1922 in Childress County, TX. he graduated from high school in Memphis, TX and became associated with Thomas E. Noel, President of First National Bank of Memphis, TX. Mr. Noel was his mentor and trained him in the banking business. He married Lena Pearl Childress in Memphis, TX. M.D. joined the Navy in 1943 and served as an Yeoman 1st Class and court reporter on the USS Kennison. After returning from the Navy in 1945, he was employed by White Swan Foods. He later returned to Memphis, TX where he became cashier of First National Bank. He came to Muleshoe, TX in 1955 and helped organize the First National Bank, which is now First Bank of Muleshoe. He married Dean on October 11, 1980 in Muleshoe, TX. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Muleshoe and an associate member of the First Christian Church in Ruidoso, NM. He was very active in both churches singing in the choir and serving on various boards. M.D. was proud member and past board member of Cree Meadows Country Club. He was a Shriner and 32nd degree Mason. M.D. is survived by his wife Dean; one sister, Erma Lee Lowrie of Wellington, Tx; two sons, Danny of Shreveport, LA and Tommy of Muleshoe, TX; one step-son, Daryl of Belen, NM; four grandsons, Chaun, Hagen, Grant, and Jarrod and one granddaughter, Tonda. He is also survived by seven great grandaughters and two daughters-in-law, Sherry and Beth. M.D. was preceded in death by his parents, O.M. and Vera Crawley Gunstream and one son, Jerry Lynn Gunstream. Services celebrating M.D.'s life will be held in Ruidoso, NM at the First Christian on Tuesday, May 6, at 10:00 AM. Services will also be held at the First United Methodist Church in Muleshoe, TX on Wednesday, May 7, at 1:00 PM following private interment. Visitation will be held Monday, May 5, at LaGrone Funeral Chapel in Ruidoso, NM from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM and then on Tuesday, May 6, at Ellis Funeral Home in Muleshoe, TX from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM. Memorials may be made to a charity of choice in lieu of flowers.
