Laura Lee Leonard of Capitan, died of natural causes on the afternoon of May, 8, 2012, she was 59.

Laura was born Laura Lee Lacy to Dorothy and Hank Lacy on August 31, 1952 in Hillsboro, Texas. The family soon moved to Capitan were Laura Laura attended elementary and high school. After graduation she traveled the United States, living and exploring from Roswell to the East Coast. She lived in Pittsburgh, PA and eventually married before moving back to New Mexico. She worked at the TMC bus plant in Roswell before beginning a career at Ft. Stanton State Hospital.

Laura taught ceramics to mentally disabled students and worked in the gift shop. She worked there until the institution closed. She followed that with stints at Alto Country Club, where she was seldom caught without a smile and a kind word to give. She earned her Associates degree from Eastern New Mexico University during that time.

Laura helped raise money to send kids to Ft. Lone Tree Bible Camp, and was a very active member of several area churches and prayer groups. She helped with the establishment of the Capitan Library and was continously active in her comminity.

She is survived by her son, Lee Yobbi and her daughter, Sharese Nunez as well as her mother, Dorothy Lacy sister, Sandra Lacy brother, Jimmy Lacy and two grandsons, Armand and Aiden.

A Celebration of her life will be held at Christ Community Fellowship in Capitan on Saturday, May 12, 2012 at 5:00 PM.
