John Martin Crow, a long time resident of Ruidoso passed away on May 5, 2009 after a lengthy illness. He was born in Dallas, Texas on March 3, 1938. His family moved to Abilene, Texas where John received his education at Abilene High School and McMurry University. He completed his Professional Golfer Association qualifications and served as a pro at Colonial Country Club in Ft. Worth, Texas and Abilene Country Club in Abilene, Texas.
In the mid 1960's John won the Texas PGA thereby qualifying for the National PGA championship tournament in Tucson, Arizona.
He earned the reputation of being an astute golf teacher and coached some wll known touring pros. After operating a public golf course in Amarillo, Texas as a private concern, he moved to Ruidoso where he was for many years connected with the golf and tennis activities at the Inn of the Mountain Gods.
John is survived by his sons, Tommy of Ruidoso and David of Amelia Island, Florida; a brother, Jack of Dallas, Texas; a sister, Margaret Ann of Abilene, Texas; grandsons, Greg and Brian of Ruidoso and Jason and Joshua of Amelia Island, Florida; a nephew, Trey and a niece Jessica of Abilene, Texas. He is also survived by several ex-family members who will never forget him.
The family will have a private memorial service. Friends wishing to offer a rememberance should make a donation to the American Cancer Society.
