John J. Jack McKenna, 94, of Alto passed away Saturday, March 17, 2012 in Ruidoso. He was born November 23, 1917 in Kansas City, Missouri.
Jack was very popular and a marvelous athlete, lettering in many sports at Shawnee Mission High School. He attended the University of Kansas at Lawrence and served as a B26 bomber pilot with the U.S. Army Air Corp during Worl War II. In 1944 he married Lee Holmes of Oklahoma City and settled in Tulsa, where he raised two daughters and worked as an oilfield equipment salesman. Jack terminated his career as a regional manager with Dresser Industries in Dallas. He moved to Alto in 1982, celebrated his 60th wedding anniversary in 2004. He led an idyllic retirement playing golf, gin, poker and tour guide to his many visitors.
Jack is survived by a daughter, Karry. Jack will be lovingly remembered for his easy going Jack Lemmon type personality, quiet sense of humor, gentlemanly demeanor and innate cheerfulness.
Funeral mass will be Saturday, March 31, 2012 at 11:00 AM in St. Eleanors Catholic Church in Ruidoso. A reception will follow at Noon at Alto Lakes Golf Country Club.
The family has requested memorials to the Humane Society of Lincoln County.
