Joe Ortiz

Joe L. Ortiz, 88, of Carrizozo passed away Saturday, July 11, 2015 in Carrizozo. He was born February 25, 1927 at Gamerco, NM and had lived most of his life in Carrizozo-Lincoln County.
Joe was a butcher in the meat market at Piggly Wiggly in Carrizozo and later at Ft. Stanton Hospital retiring in 1992. He attended Santa Rita's Catholic Church in Carrizozo. He married Magdalena "Nena" Sanchez on December 6, 1946 at Clint, Texas and she preceded him in death on May 16, 2001.

He is survived by two sons, Conrad Ortiz and Mario Ortiz; 4 daughters, Yolanda Stanley, Tamara Ortiz, Judith Voss and Traci Beltran; brother, David Ortiz; 2 sisters, Rose Cutrer and Patsy Lueras; 8 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Johnny Ortiz; grandson, Joseph Ortiz; brothers and sisters, Paul Ortiz, Dan Ortiz, Viola Vigil, Oralia Najar, Josephine Ortiz, Ruth Nichols and Sally Lozoia.

Rosary will be Friday, July 17, at 6:00 PM in Santa Rita's Catholic Church in Carrizozo where the funeral will be on Saturday, July 18, at 10:00 AM with burial to follow at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Angel Ortiz, Gustavo Ortiz, Nathan Beltran, Noah Cosey, Larry Beltran and Ben Gomez; Honorary Pallbearers will be Refugio "Cookie" Najar, Bill Sjodahl, Kirby Bickel, and Larry Campbell .
