If life were a song, then Joe R. Gomez Sr. lived it My Way (by Frank Sinatra), by putting others in his community first, always approaching everyone with a smile and a welcoming handshake. He desired to make his community better for his fellow residents as well as sharing a common vision for improving the future of the community. Joe Gomez succumbed his life to a short lived battle with cancer on December 17, 2016. He was born August 30, 1947 in Artesia, New Mexico. He was preceded in death by his parents, Aldolfo and Maria Gomez, 2 brothers Aldolfo Gomez Jr. and Manuel Gomez, sister Alpidia Garcia, and granddaughter Brianna Armendariz.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Mary Gomez of Ruidoso; 5 children Patricia Armendariz, Cynthia Gallegos, Timothy Gomez, Joe Gomez Jr., and Travis Gomez; 8 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, 2 brothers and 1 sister, and numerous other family members. As well as, friends and colleagues of the surrounding Ruidoso Community.
Following his military service, Joe was employed at Sierra Blanca Motors for over 35 years, former village council member, past president of the Chamber of Commerce, Leadership Lincoln Alumni, past president of HEAL, and current Village of Ruidoso Council member.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, January 07, 2017, at 1:00pm at the Ruidoso Convention Center.
The family would prefer/has requested memorials to be donated to the local HEAL Center (Help End Abuse for Life) or the American Cancer Society.
