James Veater

Visitation for James V. Veater, 79, of Alto will be Thursday, April 8, at LaGrone Funeral Chapel from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM with the funeral service on Friday, April 9, at 11:00 AM at Community United Methodist Church in Ruidoso with burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Officiating will be the Rev. Todd Salzwedel.

Mr. Veater passed away Monday, April 5, 2010 at his home. He was born November 13, 1930 at Flagstaff, Arizona. He graduated from Ruidoso High School in 1950 where he played football. He then entered the Navy serving during the Korean War. He lived in El Paso, Texas from 1954 until 1986 and worked for Texaco while in El Paso then moved back to Lincoln County in 1986. He married Genevieve Hensley on March 22, 1952 in Ruidoso.

He is survived by his wife, Genevieve Veater of Alto two daughters, Susan Beckner of Albuquerque and Tammy Pankey of Tempe, Arizona a brother, Jody Veater of Comer, Georgia 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn Veater who passed away on August 9, 2003.
