James Runningwater

On Thursday, December 10, 2020, James (Jimmy) W. Runningwater, loving husband, father and grandfather,  passed away in Albuquerque, New Mexico, at the age of 70.

He was born to Elizabeth Coonie on November 4, 1950, in Mescalero, New Mexico and spent most of his youth in Mescalero and Whitetail.  He attended high school at Riverside Indian School in Anadarko, Oklahoma, served in the Marines from 1970-1974, worked for the Department of Defense for 30 years and attended the Mescalero Reformed Church.  He was a member of the Mescalero Apache Tribe and was very active in practicing Apache traditions.

He is survived by his wife, Deanna Runningwater; his son, Wyndham; his daughter, Elizabeth; seven grandchildren; his sister, Penny Soontay and brother-in-law, Gilbert Soontay.  He is also survived by many nieces and nephews as well as friends too many to count.

Jimmy was laid to rest in Whitetail, on December 17, 2020.
