Jack Nelson of Ruidoso, NM left us on March 15 after a tremendous battle with cancer. A memorial service will be held at Gateway Church of Christ at 415 Sudderth on Thursday March 20th at 6pm.
Jack was born in Fayetteville, AR on October 13th, 1946. He was raised in California, and later met his wife Carolyn Nelson in Germany. They were married in Carolyns hometown of Kansas City, MO on August 3rd, 1968. Jack and Carolyn raised two children, Danielle Nelson and Jack Nelson Jr. He has three grandchildren. Jack has one sister, Nellie Dean Hall and four nieces, Vicki Hall, Billie Holiday, Tami Hall, and Raylene Hall.
He was a retired United States Army Green Beret and a Vietnam veteran
After his career in the military, Jack worked as a counselor at Capitan high school. He was also a ski instructor for the Ski Apache Ski School and Ski Apache Disabled Skiers Program.
Jack devoted a tremendous amount of time working with horses. His admiration for the outdoors brought him to beautiful Ruidoso, NM in 1992. He spent a great deal of time enjoying the benefits that the mountains have to offer.
Instead of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Ski Apache Disabled Skiers Program SADSP via the Compass Bank in Ruidoso.
