Harvey Dennis "Stormy" Storms, Sr. drew his first heavenly breath on July 22, 2023. He was born on June 7, 1933, in Bladen County, NC to Alton Dennis Storms and Vivian Pearl Green Storms. Stormy is one of seven children.
Stormy was preceded in earthly death by his parents and four siblings as well as his and Ella's first grandchild, Chanda Lee Storms-Strong.
Stormy leaves behind two siblings: his brother Bobby Storms and wife, Esther of Clayton, NC, and his sister: Pearlese McCalley, of Butters, NC. Also, his wife Ella Mae Lee Storms and their three children: Harvey Dennis "Stormy" Storms Jr and his wife, Colinda of Ft. Worth, TX, Robert Evan "Stormy" Storms and his wife, Christine of Roswell, NM, and Joy! Lee Storms and her husband Dennis Hammons of Capitan, NM. 9 wonderful grandchildren, and 25 precious great-grandchildren, multiple nieces and nephews, and other loved family members and friends.
On September 18, 1951, at age 18, Stormy joined the United States Air force. He attended Basic Training at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, TX. In 1952, he was stationed at Thule, Greenland for one year. In 1953, while stationed at Walker AFB in Roswell, NM he was promoted to Staff Sergeant. In 1955, On December 25, he married Ella Mae Lee, his life partner and sweetheart. In March of 1956, Stormy was stationed at Sidi Slamain AFB, North Africa for one year. In March of 1957 he was stationed at Biggs AFB, El Paso, TX. In September 1958 he was stationed TDY on Palmyra Island (900 miles south of Hawaii) for 3 months. In September of 1960 he was stationed at Sondrestrom, Greenland, for one year. In 1961, Stormy was honorably discharged from the US Air Force.
From 1961 to 1966, Stormy managed a Texaco Service Station in Roswell. From 1966 to 1986, he was employed by the Roswell Fire Department and retired as a Lieutenant/Battalion Chief. From 1990 to 2004, Stormy managed Monterey Markets in Roswell. In September of 2019, Stormy and Ella left their home of 54 years and moved to Capitan, NM, where Ella still resides.
Graveside services will be 10:00am, Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at Fort Stanton State Veterans Cemetery 1398 HWY 220 in Fort Stanton, NM.
