Gerald Magoosh Sr.

July 28, 1934 — January 29, 2009

Gerald Magoosh Sr., 74, passed away with his loved ones by his side on Thursday, January 29, 2009. He was born July 28, 1934 in Mescalero and comes from a long line of descendents of the Mescalero Apache Tribe. His great great grandfather was Chief Magoosh and with a delegation of four apache Chiefs were granted an audience by United States President William Howard Taft to ask that captive Tribes be allowed to return to their former homelands who were prisoners of war and detained in Florida for twenty seven years and were eventually released and returned to their homelands. We celebrate his eternal life with a funeral mass in St. Joseph's Mission at Mescalero on Monday, Feb. 2, at 10:00 AM with interment to follow at the Mescalero Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, Feb. 1, at LaGrone Funeral Chapel in Ruidoso from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM. As he traveled on Mr. Magoosh left behind his children, Gerald Magoosh Jr., Lionel Ray Magoosh, Beverdine Tortilla, Debra Lynn Morgan, Gerlinda Coonie and numerous grandchildren. He also left behind, a brother, William Magoosh; two sisters, Elaine Valdez and Ceda A. Shanta and numerous nephews and nieces. In your 74 years of remembrance we all love you. SWEET DREAMS
