George "Larry" Anklam went home to be with our Lord on December 24, 2024. He was born on January 24, 1936, in Tucson to Jesse Paddock Anklam and Ralph Anklam. Larry's uncle and aunt, George and Pearl Anklam, homesteaded in Tucson and they have Anklam Road named after them. Soon after, more of the Anklam family followed. He grew up in a close-knit family with his brother Dick, who preceded him in death.
Larry moved to Ruidoso with the Forest Service in 1974. He retired in 1985. In 1984 he married Sherry Blankenship Smith from Ruidoso. He is survived by his wife, Sherry; two sons, Richard Anklam (Becca) of Albuquerque, and Rusty Smith (Joy) of Florida; eight grandkids; seven great-grandkids; and many nieces and nephews.
Larry was known for his love and knowledge of World War I, World War II, and Native American memorabilia. He was a great storyteller, with stories enjoyed by many. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather, and will be missed terribly.
