The wake service for Frederick Freddie Peso, 68, of Mescalero will be Wednesday night, March 5, at his daughter's residence in South Tularosa Canyon. Burial will be Thursday, March 6, at 10:00 AM in the Peso Family Cemetery at Head Springs. Mr. Peso passed away Sunday, March 2, in Mescalero. He was born March 14, 1939 at Mescalero and had lived there all of his life. He was a renowned artist and sculpturist having made the Crown Dancers at the Inn of the Mountain Gods and was a historian. He was appointed to the Commission of Indian Affairs for 3 terms, he served on the Mescalero Tribal Council for 24 years and was a former Vice-president serving for 4 years. He married Sofie Guilez on February 23, 1963 at Tularosa. He is survived by his wife, Sofie; six children, Daniel Peso, Dominick Peso, Karl Peso, Monica Peso, Triston Peso, and Roman Aldava; his mother, Sara Peso; two brothers, Gervase Peso and Domonic Peso; adoptive sister, Rosemary Swanson; 12 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
