My dear 'DADDY', Frank Scott Otey III, suddenly went to Heaven to be with his precious Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, one month ago Wednesday morning October 25, 2023, He can now rejoice forever because Jesus himself said in Revelation 21:4, "And God shall wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away."
Yes! This awesome promise the Lord has surely made to all who will call upon the name of the Lord for forgiveness of sin. It's why Jesus came to earth 2023 years ago. Yes, He came to 'save'...not to condemn. When my father recognized his need for God, humbled himself, and turned to Christ for salvation, the Lord heard his cry and cleansed him with His own holy, precious blood. (Romans 5:8, 10:13, & John 1:12, 3:16-17) Hallelujah! I can now celebrate because I, too, have trusted Jesus by grace through my faith in 'Him' and Him alone, and I, as my father's daughter, WILL see 'DADDY' again one day soon.
My father, "Scott', was born nearly 88 years ago in Wytheville, Virginia, where he lived throughout high school. Then he joined the United States Air Force and was transferred to Ft. Worth, Texas, for basic training. Shortly afterward, he met Nancy Ann Bucklin there, and she became his dear and devoted wife until his death nearly 66 years later.
My Dad loved to work, and by God's grace, he became a very successful businessman and was able to accomplish many great things. He also loved reading and learning, and he taught himself computers, photography, finance, real estate, and construction. In fact, he was constantly designing and building things at home just eight days before he died, and I was so proud of him. My father, Scott, taught me a lot, too, and I am grateful.
'Frankie', as his parents and five younger siblings called him, loved his family. Yes! So when he married my mom, they then had two girls, so my older sister and I were born and raised in Texas. Thankfully, though, my father loved everyone, so he always made sure that we vacationed back to Virginia to spend quality time with all the relatives, and for this, I have been and always will be thankful.
What I am grateful to GOD for the most regarding my dad is how HE intervened in our lives. Yes, the Lord was there. In fact, in both our hearts, He worked mightily, and it's because of God's mercy that my father and I began developing a special relationship with one another in his later years. As God made changes in us, my father and I grew closer, and we knew this. I saw my dad get softer in his heart in many ways, and this began to draw me closer to him. Yes, and he began to draw closer to me. Praise the Lord for His mercy and grace and the mysterious ways in which HE works.
Survivors include my mother, who is Nancy Otey, of Ruidoso, New Mexico; plus myself, Dana Otey, of Alto, New Mexico. Also, are my 'DADDY's' five siblings: Don Otey of Grand Prairie, Texas; Mary Copenhaver, C.N. Otey, and Jean Shultz, all of Wytheville, Virginia; and Jill Otey of Portland Oregon. My father also has a great friend from his childhood, Edward Kenoy, of California, who was very instrumental in his coming to know Jesus Christ as his own personal Saviour.
Preceding my father in death were his special aunt - Mitzi Topping, his father - Frank Scott Otey Jr., and his Mother - Ruth Haley-Otey, all of Wytheville, Virginia. In addition, was his oldest daughter - Kim Lynn Otey of Grand Prairie, Texas. A memorial service for my precious 'DADDY", Frank Scott Otey III, will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Harvest Church, in Ruidoso, New Mexico. Please join my mother and I as we worship the Lord, and we celebrate the life of my dear 'DADDY", Frank Scott Otey III. God bless you in Jesus' name. Amen.
Blessed Assurance, an old hymn of the Christian faith, was written by Fannie Crosby, and it is my favorite. Here are some of its words, which she penned in the 1800's. Praise God!
Blessed Assurance, Jesus is mine!
O what a foretaste of glory divine.
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior all the day long;
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior all the day long.
