Eva was born at home on her fathers birthday, October 21, 1929, in Capitan, New Mexico. Her parents were James and Ethel Lund Howard. The Howards homesteaded west of Ft. Stanton, and the Lunds came to White Oaks during the gold rush. Eva grew up in Fort Stanton and graduated from Capitan High School in 1947. She attended the University of New Mexico and then Eastern New Mexico University where she earned an associate degree in secretarial science. Her family lived in Illinois, New York, Texas, Arizona, Kentucky and Germany, but mostly in New Mexico.

Eva worked at Zia Therapy Center in Alamogordo for 16 years, working her way up from a classroom aid to the assistant director. In 1987 she retired and moved to Las Cruces to care for her daughter, Norma Sutherland, an Alamogordo Department of Public Safety ambulance attendant who was totally disabled in an onthejob accident Labor Day Weekend 1984. Norma predeceased her mother in 1996.

In 2011 Eva moved to Ruidoso to be closer to her family and was living there at the time of her death on March 18, 2014.

In addition to her sister, Margaret Searle of Tucson, AZ, and her brother, Guy Thomas Howard and his wife Pat of Cazevovia, NY, she is survived by her daughter, Nancy Hasbrouck and her husband Allen of Huntsville, AL, her daughter Martha Sutherland Shaw and her husband Craig of Big Lake, AK, her son, James McCollum and his wife Cindy of Alamogordo, NM, and her daughter, Kathy Richardson and her husband Albert of Ruidoso Downs, NM, grandchildren Donna Ikard, Wesley Hadley, Amanda Lamb, Patrick Conley, Kathleen Brown, Bobbie Ruddle, Christopher McCollum, Laura McCollum, and 10 great grandchildren. Another brother, Dwight Allison, preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 24 at 2:00 pm at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Mount, 121 Mescalero Trail, Ruidoso, NM. Internment will be in the Howard Family Plot in the Angus Cemetery.
