brbrVisitation for Eugene Earl Gene Hughes, 77, of Ruidoso will be Wednesday, April 22, at LaGrone Funeral Chapel from 3:30 PM until 5:30 PM, the funeral service will be Thursday, April 23, at 1:30 PM in the First Baptist Church with burial to follow at the Ruidoso Hondo Valley Cemetery.brbrMr. Hughes passed away Friday, April 17, in Alamogordo. He was born December 20, 1931 at Solano, New Mexico. He moved to Ruidoso in February, 1999 from Hobbs, New Mexico. He was aformer school teacherfrom Hobbs, former President of the University of the Southwest at Hobbs, hehad been a Vice President of Marketing with Western National Life Insurance Company and served on a Joint House Senate Commission on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. He was very acitive in church, serving as a deacon andwithmusic programs in several churches and was a member of First Baptist Church in Ruidoso. He married Judy Orr on September 3, 1951 at Hobbs, New Mexico.brbrHe is survived by his wife, Judy; a son, David Eugene Hughes and his wife Susan of Moore, OK; a brother, Marion R. Hughes and his wife, Gervadine of Pasco, WA; a sister, Iona Guthrie of Lexington, TX; 4 grandchildren, Lindsay Hughes, Judy Dines, Preston Carter, and Tarrant Carter; a son-in-law, Jim Dines; a brother in law, John Orr. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Melissa Dines, brother, Dr. Edwin Hughes and his wife, Tiona; and a brother-in-law, Jesse Guthrie.brbrThe family has requested memorials to the Library Fund at First Baptist Church or Alzheimer's Association.br
