Ernestine Bennett

Ernestine Jennings Bennett, 87, died Wednesday, January 25, 2012.
A memorial celebrating her life will be held Saturday, February 18 at 11:00 am at Community United Methodist Church in Ruidoso.

Mrs. Bennett was born February 11, 1924 in Sweetwater, Oklahoma to Robert and Lois Jennings. The family relocated to Tulia, Texas when she was an infant. She spent her childhood in Tulia, graduated from Tulia High School in 1941 and attended college at West Texas State in Canyon. During World War II, she moved to San Diego and worked for the Naval Supply Depot . She met and married Ray Bennett in San Diego in 1947. They raised their family in Chula Vista, California, where she was actively involved in all of her childrens activities. Mrs. Bennett devoted her life to raising her family. She was an active member of the Baptist Church in Chula Vista and later, National City. One of her greatest joys was music and she was an accomplished pianist and singer. She was the accompanist for the chorus at her childrens school. She also volunteered her musical talents to her church, both as an accompanist and vocalist. She was a member of the San Diego Choral Club for many years prior to moving to Ruidoso in 1983. Mrs. Bennett was a member of the Community Methodist Church in Ruidoso and enjoyed singing in the choir. She had a great love of gardening and enjoyed making her home beautiful.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Bennett her sister, Imogene Harris and her parents.

Survivors include her son, Stephen Bennett, his girlfriend Roberta Millican of Las Cruces daughter Marilyn Cascarano and her husband Gary of Visalia, California son Randy Bennett and his wife Marilyn of Ruidoso three sisters: Lucille Barbour of Canyon, Texas, Faye Henthorn of Tulia, Texas, Kay Robinson of Colorado Springs, Colorado and one brother, Bob Jennings of Thousand Oaks, California grandchildren Jeffery Bennett, Lauren Cascarano, Ryan Cascarano, Melissa Cascarano, Jessica Garcia and Joey Garcia.

Memorials are suggested to the Community Youth Center Warehouse in Ruidoso.
