Dr. Don Johnson died peacefully at his home on Monday, April 25, 2011, after a long illness. He was born on July 23, 1923, in Silver City, New Mexico. He served in the Navy and operated a photography studio for many years in Silver City, having received a Masters award in photography, before going to Chiropractic school. He had a chiropractic practice in Lubbock, Texas for 20 years before moving to Ruidoso 25 years ago. He practiced in Ruidoso for 22 years.
Don was a kind, gentle man and a gentleman. He often treated patients at no charge if they were unable to pay. He loved living in Ruidoso because of its beauty, the fresh air, lack of pollution and slower pace of living, and he never wanted to leave.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby, of the home a daughter, Janet Zbojniewicz and her husband, Paul, of Scottsdale, Arizona grandsons, Pierce, Spencer and Christopher Zbojniewicz a son, Scott Johnson of Haslet, Texas and grandaughter, Sara Johnson a step daughter, Cindy Dunlap of Lubbock, Texas step granddaughter, Dacey Dunlap and step grandson, Chantry Dunlap a step son, Scott Sanders of Lubbock, Texas step grandsons, Dusty Sanders and Rusty Sanders and step granddaughter Amanda Sanders.
Visitation will be Saturday, April 30, from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM at LaGrone Funeral Chapel of Ruidoso.
The family has requested memorial donations to Ruidoso Home Care Hospice or to your favorite charity.
