Chester Smith

On Saturday, May 22, 2010, God called home his loving and faithful servant, Chester Frank Smith, to be with him in eternity. Visitation for Mr. Smith will be Tuesday, May 25, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at LaGrone Funeral Chapel of Ruidoso. Funeral services will Wednesday, May 26, at 10:00 AM at the Ruidoso Downs First Southern Baptist Church with graveside services at 2:30 PM at South Park Cemetery in Roswell.

Mr. Smith was born near Aspermont, Texas on Feb. 28, 1926 to E.V. Coonie and Margaret B. Pete Smith who both precede him in death. He graduated from Aspermont High School May, 1943 and served in the U.S. Navy from Feb. 26, 1944 unitl April 30, 1946 during World War II.

He was owner of American Oxygen Co. Inc. in Ruidoso Downs and Roswell for 37 years. He was a member and deacon of Ruidoso Downs First Southern Baptist Church. He married Dorothy Ellen Goodrum on October 5, 1947 at Aspermont.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Ruidoso Downs two daughters, Delores Ann Walker and her husband Cliff, Carol Jeanette Smith one son, Ward Keith Smith and his wife Nancy all of Roswell three grandsons, one step grandson, two granddaughters, 2 step granddaughters, 3 great granddaughters and one great grandson. He is also survived by two sisters, Maxine Sherrod and her husband M.L. of Canyon, TX and Myrtle Manning of Amarillo, TX as well as many other relatives and friends to grieve his home going. He was preceded in death by a sister, Leona Brown and one infant son, Richard in 1956.
