Charlotte C. Jarratt, The Baby, of 13 children was born May 22, 1927 at Jonesboro, Georgia to Annie Mae and Grover Cleveland Crumbley. She was in the Navy Wave Nurses Training program during World War II, but health problems prevented her from completing this program. Although told at that time her life expectancy was only to age 25, she survived until April 8, 2009 when she passed away at the age of 81. She married William Jarratt on April 6, 1946 at Douglasville, Georgia and he preceded her in death on August 8, 2007. A resident of Ruidoso since 1970, Charlotte was very active in the community. She helped establish and served as the Director of the Senior Citizens Center, then helped establish the Ruidoso Care Center. Charlotte was active in the Ruidoso Women's ClubGeneral Federated Women's Club, serving as both the local president and the state president. Prior to moving to Ruidoso from Tucson, AZ, Charlotte served as the local, state, and then national president of the National Association of Educational Office Personnel. Charlotte and William were actively involved in the Democratic Party in New Mexico and Charlotte was a candidate for State Senator in the early 1980's. Charlotte and William were charter members of the Casas Adobes Baptist Church in Tucson, AZ and then active members of the First Baptist Church in Ruidoso. Charlotte was a beloved Mother, Grandmother and community leader. She will be sorely missed, yet fondly remembered by her family and friends. She is survived by her only child, Kathryn Ann Walker of Ruidoso; two grandsons, Wade Alan Walker of Austin, TX and John Travis Walker of Denver, CO; and five siblings, Ruth Haddock, Martha Knowles, Ruby Skinner, Jack Crumbley and Louie Crumbley.
