Charles Edwin Russell III, age 73, passed away April 21, 2023, in Alamogordo, NM. He was born on June 28, 1949, in Corpus Christi, TX to the late Edwin and Joyce Russell. Mr. Russell graduated from Texas A&M University Maritime Academy and was a maritime engineer consultant by trade. He thoroughly enjoyed traveling the world for business. Mr. Russell changed many lives through the scholarship he founded for Texas A&M University.
Mr. Russell lived a very active life. He hiked mountains and skied in Washington State. He was a trap shooter and member of the Alamogordo Road Runner Trap Club. Always eager to expand his knowledge, he loved studying Spanish and American History.
Charles was an accomplished singer and guitarist. He was incredibly proud to have sung Handel’s Messiah at Carnegie Hall. Mr. Russell was a devoted member of the El Paso Symphony Choir as well as the Ruidoso Community Choir.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Carolyn in 2018; and sister, Linda Russell.
Mr. Russell is survived by his wife, Denise Shield; brother, Joe Russell; sister, Peggy Weatherford; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Graveside Service will be held Thursday, April 27, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Gavilan Canyon Cemetery.
