November 18, 1922 — September 5, 2011

Billy Grover ReedBill Reed to all passed away peacefully Sept. 5 at his home in Ruidoso, New Mexico with Dianne, his wife of 35 years, his son Stephen and wife Carolyn, at his side. A long illness finally took its toll. He is survived by his son Stephen Reed, daughter Susan Cooper, and stepson Dred Parsons, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Bill was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma on Nov. 18, 1922, the only child of Willie Ann and Grover Reed, both deceased. There he lived until he joined the US Navy at the beginning of World War II, serving on the destroyer escort USS Brazier as a first class radioman until the war ended. His life after the war took many directions, finally settling on ranch brokerage and appraisal until he retired in l997.

Bill was a lifelong lover of Quarter Horses, servicing faithfully in the New Mexico Quarter Horse Assn. ultimately being their president. In l978 he became president of the AQHA. He was inducted into the Quarter Horse Hall of Fame in 1995. He always maintained his love of both the horses and the people associated with them until his death.

He was a man of his word, and could always be depended upon to help anyone in need. He was loved by all and all loved him.
