Visitation for Betty Patton McCabe, 85, of Ruidoso will be Thursday, April 15, at LaGrone Funeral Chapel from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM with the funeral service on Friday, April 16, at 10:00 AM in First Christian Church followed by a private burial at Ruidoso Hondo Valley Memorial Park.
Betty leaves a legacy of motherhood, career and community. She passed away Friday, April 9, 2010 at the Mescalero Care Center, she was born March 19, 1925 at Austin, Texas. Betty Patton at that time moved four children from Odessa, Texas to Ruidoso and raised them as a single mother in the mid 1960s. Betty went to work as an assistant to the president of the Security Bank in 1968. In 1971, Betty purchased the Artistic Beauty Salon and was the owner operator for several years. Wanting to better herself, Betty saw an opportunity in the real estate industry. Courses were not available locally, so Betty and a friend commuted twice a week to El Paso following a full day of work. Betty obtained her brokers license in the early 1970s and went on to a very successful career as a real estate professional serving on the local Board of Realtors and was also the first female president of the organization. Betty also served on the Village of Ruidoso planning and zoning commission and was active in local politics for many years. Betty was a member of the First Christian Church for over 40 years playing the piano for many years in the 1970s. Betty loved the Lord and her church. Betty married Vic McCabe of Colorado City, Texas in 1985 who preceded her in death in 2008.
Betty is survived by her four children, Barbara Patton of Odessa, TX, Ken Patton of Amarillo, TX, Mel Patton of Newport Beach, CA and Van Patton of Ruidoso 4 grandchildren, Dorley Harris of San Angelo, TX, Adam and J.D. Patton of Amarillo, TX and Bonner Patton of Ruidoso as well as many great grandchildren. Betty was passionately loved and will be greatly missed.
