Berdena Berd Jean Shosh was born September 5, 1964 in Mescalero, NM. She crossed over to Jesus Christ on Sunday, May 15, 2011, in El Paso, TX. She had lived in Mescalero all of her life. Her passion was working with the youth and sharing Apache culture activities with others. She had a specialty at cooking during cultural ceremonies for Apache men and women on the reservation for the past 25 years. She was also a foster parent to the children of Mescalero for many years. She was also employed with the BIA Law Enforcement as a dispatcher and BIA youth development as a recreational assistant which she retired from.
She is survived by one brother, Fernando Shosh Jr. of Mescalero one sister, Lavernie Kinzhuma of Mescalero 3 sons, Elmer Kobe Kaydahzinne Jr., Nathan Mangas both of Mescalero and STP. Matthew A. Shosh and his wife STP. Cari D. Shosh and grandson Hayden M. Shosh of Ft. Hood, TX 3 aunts, Norma ShoshAdams, Rosaline Miller and Pricilla Randall one uncle, Jess Randall all of Mescalero and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fernando Shosh Sr. and Amy Shosh maternal grandparents, Evelyn Martin and Ralph Chee and paternal grandparents, Kenneth and Fannie Shosh all of Mescalero.
A memorial service for Berd will be on Thursday, May 19, at 6:00 PM at the Mescalero Community Gymnasium where the funeral service will be on Friday, May 20, at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at the Mescalero Cemetery.
