Bennie Ruth Caffey Goines, 74, was called home to our Heavenly Father on Tuesday, May 19, 2021 in Ruidoso, NM.
Bennie was a loving and honorable person and changed many lives for the better. She was born on May 7, 1947 in Snyder, Texas. Her parents were Raymond and Katy Phipps. In 1969, she moved to Odessa, TX and starting in 1970 worked as a training supervisor at Levi’s until the plant closed in 1980. While taking a secretarial class at Odessa College she was promoted to a job teaching Adult Basic Education. From 1990-1999 she worked as an educator at Ector County Independent School District. She taught students from 14 to 21 years old how to write resumes, use computers, and get a self-paced GED or high school diploma. She also coached at-risk students how to have better choices in life and had the utmost respect for her students.
She met her husband, the love of her life, Dick Goines, in Odessa, TX and they were married until his death on August 26, 2017. They spent the happiest years of their lives together after they retired and moved to Ruidoso, NM in July 1999.
Bennie was active in her church, First Southern Baptist Church of Ruidoso Down, and taught Sunday school class for 10 years. She loved her church family very much.
Bennie is survived by her two children, daughter Gigi Hankins of Waynesville, North Carolina, son Tyner Goines and daughter-in-law Kelly of Denham Springs, Louisiana, along with eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Curtis Ray Green of Snyder, sister Peggy Green of Snyder and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilburn Douglas (Dick) Goines, her sister Ann Huddleston Gernandt and her half-brother Billy Caffey.
In lieu of flowers, Bennie requests that memorial contributions be sent to First Southern Baptist of Ruidoso Downs. Donations can be mailed to First Southern Baptist of Ruidoso Downs, P.O. Box 187, Ruidoso Downs, NM, 88346.
Funeral Service will be Friday, June 11, at 1:30 PM at the First Southern Baptist Church of Ruidoso Downs with burial to follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
