Anthony Romero

May 28, 1968 — August 24, 2021

Corona, NM

Anthony “Tony” Romero, 53, entered joyfully into the presence of the Lord on August 24, 2021.  Born to Paul (former) and Carmen Romero in Clovis, NM, on May 28, 1968, he was raised in Corona, NM, where he graduated Corona High School in 1986.

A jack-of-all-trades, Tony pursued multiple professions over the years.  Notably, as a journeyman ironworker, he constructed countless high-rise buildings, major bridges, and structural landmarks across the United States.  Upon returning to Corona, Tony proudly followed in his father’s footsteps, working on various ranches in and around the Corona area.  It was the cowboy way of life Tony found most fulfilling!

In his down-time, Tony liked watching Western movies and listening to rhythm and blues, country, classic rock, and Spanish music.  Prior to his declining health, he also enjoyed hiking the beautiful New Mexico mountains, mesas, and llanos, and often joined up with friends to rope in small town rodeo events.  At the time of his worldly departure, he had two four-legged amigos: his mare, Rita, and red healer, Banjo.

Tony deeply cherished his family and friends, and genuinely sought to please others.  Described by many as humble and kind, he was known to go out of his way to help people.  His respectful and selfless characteristics were indicative of a gentle soul with a servant’s heart.  He was a good, honest, and trustworthy man.  Tony’s witty personality was often the source of sparked laughter among company and his larger-than-life smile was beyond contagious!  One couldn’t help but be happy in his presence!

Most importantly, in his youth Tony found salvation through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  A member of the Corona Baptist Church, he had a deep and personal relationship with God and his faith was steady throughout his life.  There is much comfort knowing Tony was covered by the Blood of the Lamb when he departed his earthly life.  Oh, the joy it must have been when he entered the gates of Heaven!

Dearly loved and deeply missed, Tony is survived by his mother, Carmen Romero; brothers Paul [Laticia], Danny [Deneen], Michael, Jessie, and George; sisters Maria Dearing [Chris], Alvina Holleyman [Lon], and Joanna Romero [Angelica]; nephews Isaac Alirez, Matthew Alirez, and Nicholas Hollifield; nieces Angelica Alirez, Samantha Alirez, Angelina Romero, Malena Collier, Brianna Dearing, Courtney Dearing, and Meriah Holleyman; and numerous extended relatives.

Tony is preceded in death by his father, Paul Romero, and brothers Alvie Romero, Flavio Garcia and Herman Alirez.

A graveside ceremony will be held at 5 p.m. on Monday, August 30, 2021 at the Village of Corona Cemetery.  Regrettably, due to the COVID pandemic, there will be no reception following burial.
