Alfred Montes

Alfred Leroy Montes went home to be with our Lord November 22, 2021 in Capitan, NM. Leroy grew up in the Hondo Valley where he attended school. He loved sharing stories of playing basketball as a Hondo Eagle. He also had a love of animals and was an avid horseman. He always had horse advice to share with his grandkids.

Leroy joined the Army and then attended St. Michaels College in Santa Fe. In 1958, he married Rose C. Carvajal. Leroy had a heart for public service as he was an Alamogordo, Capitan, and Lincoln County Police Officer. He also served as a magistrate and municipal judge. Leroy continued to serve the public as a Capitan Trustee.

He later changed professions working at the Alto Lakes Water Corporation as a water and sewer operator. In retirement, he loved watching westerns and football and keeping up with the comings and goings of his grandchildren.

Leroy was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Margarita Montes his brother Rayno Montes and his sister, Mary Richardson. Leroy is survived by his wife Rose Montes of 63 years, son Ronnie Montes of Capitan, daughters Lilly Bradley of Capitan and Yvonne Rich (Dennis Rich) of Capitan, Grandchildren, Ronnie Montes (Kiera Treer), Cory Montes, Maggie Rich, Madison Tracey and Zachary Rich.

A graveside service will be held at the Fort Stanton State Veterans Cemetery, Fort Stanton, NM on December 8, 2021 at 1:30 pm.
