Albert Andrew Najar 63 entered eternal rest on February 5, 2016 at his home in Carrizozo surrounded by family. Albert was born on February 11, 1952 to the late Refugio Najar Sr. and Oralia Najar in Carrizozo, NM. He attended elementary at Santa Rita Catholic School and high school at Carrizozo High where he graduated in 1970. He met the love of his life Mary Canup and started his family. After graduation he worked for Jackie Spencer until he found employment with the Bureau of Land Management. A position he loved and took much pride in. Albert was dedicated to the BLM for over 25 years. Albert was the fire chief for the Carrizozo Fire Department for over 10 years. He loved being a part of the department. His passion was cooking for parties, weddings and for his family. He donated his time cooking for the school events and banquets. Albert loved taking his granddaughters fishing and anywhere they wanted to go. He enjoyed telling his stories of the life and history of Carrizozo. Albert was very knowledgeable about the history and events of Lincoln County. You could ask him any question about what happened and he would answer you without hesitation or having to look anything up. He was loved by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife Mary Najar, daughter Amanda Saenz husband Jose Saenz, stepsons Daniel and Andrew Romero, granddaughters Raelin and Gabriela Saenz, brothers and sisters, Beatrice Sheehan, Rachel Rominger, Martha Walters, Carmen Hill, Leeroy Najar, Refugio Najar Jr. and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his son Raymond Najar, parents Refugio and Oralia Najar, brother Michael Najar, and sister Eufemia Najar.
The Vigil will be Friday, February 12, at 9:30 A.M. with the funeral mass to follow at 10:00 A.M. at Santa Rita's Catholic Church in Carrizozo. Burial will follow at Our Lady Guadalupe Catholic Cemetery.
