Adrianne Hanks

October 24, 1938 — May 23, 2009

Adrianne Marden Hanks, 70, was born and raised in Riconada and Whitetail Districts of the Mescalero Apache Reservation. She was baptized in the Catholic Chruch, her Godfather was the late Nicholas Dorame and her Godmother was the late Simona Dorame. Her education consisted of attending day school in Whitetail then on to Albuquerque Indian School, graduating on May 18, 1957. She attended Haskell Institute Post graduate program from 1958 to 1960 and graduated in 1961. Her employment history started with the BIA Relocation Program in Oakland, CA in 1961 then moved to Dulce, NM in the later part of 1961 to March, 1963, working with the Jicarilla BIA Agency. After March, 1963 she moved to Laguna Pueblo and worked in Albuquerque at the Southern Pueblo Agency. In 1969 she moved back to Mescalero and worked for the tribe until 1975. In 1975 her last employment was with Mescalero BIA Law Enforcement Agency until her early retirement in 1994. She is survived by a daughter, Myrna L. Hanks; son, Lynn G. Hanks; daughter, Carole S. Hanks and granddaughters, M'Linn and Savannah Hanks; daughter, Joan M. Hanks and granddaughter, Devin Hanks; sister, Iris Geronimo and family; brother, Jonathan Chee; sister, Lynette Kanseah and family; sister, Karen Moreno and family. Aunt Bessie Gallerito and family; her Sioux Family, Gary and Crystal Weazel and family. She married the late Sherald G. Hanks of White Earth, MN in 1961 at St. Lawrence Chapel in Lawrence, KS and preceded her in death in March, 2005. Through her family of marriage she was also preceded in death by her father in law, George Hanks and mother in law, Audrey Hanks. Surviving brothers and sisters in law include, Marvin Hanks Sr., Clifford Hanks, Joyce Highelk, Dale Hanks, Gloria Grandboise, Barbara Hanks, Donna Hanks, Patricia Hanks, Darlene Hanks, and very beloved brother in lsw, Peter Hanks and their families. She is also survived by beloved family friends, Lillian Lopez and family and Sheri and Larry Barber. Prayer service will be Wednesday, May 27, at 6:00 PM in the Mescalero Reformed Church where the funeral will be on Thursday, May 28, at 10:00 AM with burial to follow at the Whitetail Cemetery.
